Reimagined Semi-Detached Multifamily Community Concept

Project type

Architecture

Date

2025

Location

Toronto

A speculative design concept for the Greater Toronto Area that reimagines what a semi-detached home can be. Rather than two mirrored units sharing a wall, this proposal creates a small intentional community of four, designed for families and individuals at different ages and stages of life.
The design is built around the idea that good neighbours make good lives. Open, visible, and shared spaces encourage casual connection and a sense of community, while private and covered areas provide moments of quiet retreat and personal reflection. The balance between togetherness and privacy is deliberate, every space has been considered for how it makes people feel, not just how it functions.

Generous connections to the natural world are woven throughout, bringing greenery, light, and the outdoors into daily life for all residents. This project challenges the conventional semi-detached typology and asks a simple question: what if your home also gave you a community?
